Carsten Gieseler, Managing Director of Dresden-based fodjan GmbH, has been awarded the Förderpreis der Agrarwirtschaft 2015 for the development of the “fodjan smart feeding” software. This award was presented by the agrarzeitung on 08.11.2015 at a gala to mark the opening of the Agritechnica trade fair in Hanover. Three up-and-coming talents received the coveted award for new solutions in digitization and the use of algae in agriculture.

Better animal health and high cost savings

Carsten Gieseler, trained farmer and Agricultural Economist, is one of the founders of the Dresden-based start-up company fodjan and played a key role in developing the software for optimal feeding of dairy cows. fodjan smart feeding offers a solution for improving animal health and performance for dairy cows. The software enables the optimized use of home-grown feed and the corresponding feed purchase. At the same time, the feed costs of farms are reduced by an average of ten percent. Although other areas of modern agriculture are already making extensive use of the possibilities offered by the latest digital technologies, there have been no modern programs for feeding livestock, which costs around 10 billion euros in feed in Germany alone. This is where the feeding software from fodjan smart feeding comes in with a web-based and interactive Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution. Gieseler has further plans for the future and would like to extend the feeding software to other farm and breeding animals, such as pigs.
