Residual / remaining feed in fodjan

In fodjan it is possible:

  • to calculate the rations with residual feed
  • to feed the rations considering residual feed and
  • to document residual feed manually.

In this article, we explain how to master these steps of residual feed management in fodjan.

Required user rights: admin, owner or writing

You first set remaining feed in the feed group settings. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Go to Animal group in the left menu.
  2. Go with the mouse over the feed group where you want to enter remaining feed and go to the “Edit” button.

You can also enter remaining feed already when creating the feed group, more about creating feed groups – read here.

  1. At the bottom under “Feed fence” you can enter the percentage of remaining feed that should be taken into account.

Why is remaining feed given in % and not in kg? The feed remaining is given as a percentage so that it is possible to see what amount of feed was actually taken in by the animals, irrespective of e.g. daily fluctuations.

You can now enter the rations in fodjan, read more about this here. When you enter a ration into fodjan, the remaining feed is automatically taken into account, i.e., you only have to enter the amounts that are actually taken in by the animals.

The amounts of remaining feed you entered will then be taken into account when you feed with fodjan (see the following section).

What quantities must be provided under consideration of remaining feed is shown e.g., on the recipe of the ration, more about this here.

On the other hand, remaining feed is also taken into account when exporting rations to the feed mixing technology.

Animal species: Dairy

Remaining feed can also be documented manually in fodjan, more about that here. This gives you an overview of the accuracy of your feeding. However, this remaining feed level does not automatically go into the remaining feed percentage in the feed group. Please make sure that you check this regularly and adjust it if necessary.

You first set remaining feed in the feed group settings. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Go to Feeding in the menu at the bottom.
  1. Press and hold the feed group for which you want to enter remaining feed until the “Edit” and “Remove” buttons appear on the right. Click on the “Edit” button.
  1. Enter the remaining feed as a percentage under “Feed fence per animal & day”.

Why is remaining feed given in % and not in kg? The feed remaining is given as a percentage so that it is possible to see what amount of feed was actually taken in by the animals, irrespective of e.g., daily fluctuations.

You can now enter the rations into fodjan, for more information read here. In the rations, the intaken ration is entered, so you do not have to enter the amounts of residual feed when planning.

The quantities of remaining feed that you enter will then be taken into account when you feed with fodjan.

In the app, the remaining feed is taken into account when using the “Feed Now” function, you can find more about this function here.

Remaining feed can also be documented manually in fodjan, more about that here. However, this remaining feed level does not automatically go into the remaining feed percentage in the feed group. Please make sure that you check this regularly and adjust it if necessary.
